Portfolios I’ll be attempting this semester:

  • “The Candid Polaroid,” comprised of 20-100+ polaroids of varying types. I’m expecting a box of Gold Edition Color Shade and a box of black-framed Silver Shade in the next week. I’m really hoping they get more of the Gold Edition Silver Shade in the US warehouse so I don’t have to pay $30+ for shipping. I also plan to buy some of the white-framed Color Shade and Silver Shade, as well as the gray-framed Silver Shade. I’m reallyyyy stoked on this project.
  • I’ll be continuing my burned portfolio. I did a 4 image suite for my summer color processing class. The portfolio is shot entirely in color film. Once developed, the frame is cut from the strip, burned, and printed in the darkroom. The paper is then burned, mounted on a white 11x14 board, and then the board itself is burned. Noone outside of my summer classes has seen this portfolio, and I do plan on uploading it eventually. My teacher suggested doing this, then photographing the final product, and printing it in the digital lab. I’m not quite sure how I feel about this.
  • Multiple exposures. This will all be shot with film, probably 120 with my Holga and 4x5” with the view camera. I’m considering doing it with 35mm, it’s just hard to rewind the film without losing the tongue in the canister. We’ll see.
  • I’m considering doing a portfolio on travel. Lately, I’ve been driving back and forth to Ft. Lauderdale every other weekend, if not more. I’m also planning a roadtrip to Chicago in the very near future. If I do this, I’ll be shooting with my Canon AE-1 (35mm film), Holga (120mm film), the view camera (4x5” film), the Polaroid camera, my Canon T2i, and any other camera I get between now and the end of the semester. 
  • Live Entertainment. This one for obvious reasons. It’s also kind of a fall-back. We’ll see. I feel like I won’t be shooting enough shows to complete this one.

I only need to do three of these for my portfolio class, but we’ll see. I also need a personal project for my Commercial/Illustration class, so I may do one of these for that, as well.

I’ve got two other ideas that I’d love to do, as well, but I’m not quite sure if I will do them.

  • One based around beginning/rising/aspiring models. I’ve got a few friends who are trying to break into modeling right now. I plan on asking these few if they’d like to be a part of it the next time I shoot them each.
  • Every time I go home lately, I just see more and more construction being done. It’s all where I grew up, places I know very well. I’ve been thinking about this for two semesters now. I want to photograph the construction in black and white 35mm film. The main reason I don’t think I’ll be doing it: I’m so nervous I’ll get caught or in trouble. I don’t think I have the balls to do it, as much as I’d love to.

I’m really being ambitious this semester. This may be my most expensive semester yet, between the polaroid and color film of varying sizes, and all of the printing paper.

I’m excited, but terrified.
